Introduction

Pyroptosis is an important natural immune response of the body, which plays an important role in antagonizing infection and endogenous danger signals. Pyroptosis is essentially cell inflammatory necrosis mediated by GSDMD (gasdermin D) protein, which is closely related to a variety of pathophysiological processes.

Due to the formation of micropores in the cell membrane, the pyroptosis cells will lose the ability to regulate the entry and exit of substances. The osmotic balance on both sides of the cell membrane is broken, resulting in the release of IL-1β, IL-18 and other inflammatory factors and pro-inflammatory mediators. Eventually, the cells burst and dissolve. The cytoplasmic content is released to the exterior environment, and more inflammatory cells are recruited due to pro-inflammatory signals to neighboring cells, which triggers an obvious inflammatory response. There will be slight DNA damage and chromosome condensation, but the nucleus remains intact.
