Ferroptosis is a new way of cell death discovered in recent years. It is an oxidative cell death induced by small molecules, which is iron ion-dependent. Its occurrence is caused by the imbalance between the production and degradation of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cell. Ferroptosis inducers directly or indirectly act on glutathione peroxidase (GPXs) through different pathways, resulting in decreased cell antioxidant capacity, accumulation of ROS, and finally cell oxidative death. Ferroptosis is related to many diseases such as Parkinson's syndrome and pancreatic cancer. Researchers have found that ferroptosis can be activated or inhibited to interfere with the development of the disease. Therefore, ferroptosis has become a research hotspot in recent years.
