The quantification of lipid peroxidation is crucial to evaluate the role of oxidative damage in pathophysiological disorders. Lipid peroxidation leads to the high activity of saturated and unsaturated lipids and the formation of unstable hydroperoxides. Traditionally, lipid peroxidation is quantified by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), which are the degradation products of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) hydroperoxides.
