The Caspase family contains more than 10 members. These enzymes can be divided into three groups: Group I (including caspase-1, -4, -5) is mainly involved in the production of inflammatory cytokines. Group II (including caspase-2, -3, -7) and group III (including caspase-6, -8, -9, -10) play the role of effector and upstream activator in apoptosis, respectively.
